Job Description:


As a Summer Camp Counselor at Saint Mary's Countdown to College in July 2025, you will mentor and support high school students preparing for college. You'll be assigned to a specific year group, working with fellow counselors to ensure the program's smooth operation. In addition to academic guidance, your role involves organizing activities that foster personal growth and community building among camp participants. You will also conduct rotating nightly rounds to ensure the safety and well-being of campers during the evening hours. Your dedication and commitment to the safety and development of camp participants will be invaluable in ensuring a successful and memorable experience for all involved.

 

Salary Range: $15.00 per hour.

 

Key Responsibilities:


● Year-Specific Guidance: Lead and mentor a specific group of high school students, providing them with guidance, support, and assistance throughout the program.
● Daily Activity Coordination: Lead daily activities, including walking students between classes, facilitating skill-building workshops, and planning and executing fun and engaging group activities.
● Supervision and Wellbeing: Maintain constant supervision and oversight of students to ensure their safety, well-being, and adherence to program rules and guidelines.
● Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively to plan and facilitate various camp activities.
● Camp Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of the program curriculum and schedule, contributing ideas and insights to enhance the overall experience. Assist with set up and clean of all camp facilities, activities, and organization.
● Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, offering guidance and mentorship to students on a range of topics, including academics, personal growth, and college preparation.
● Nightly Safety Rounds: Conducting rotating nightly rounds to guarantee the safety and well-being of campers during the evening hours, maintaining a secure and nurturing environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications:


● College students or recent college graduates between 18 and 23 years old. Saint Mary’s and non-Saint Mary’s students are welcome.
● Pass a background check.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with fellow counselors.
● Demonstrated responsibility, reliability, and a commitment to the well-being of high school students.
● Previous experience in mentoring, leadership, or youth programs is a plus but not required. Duration: July 6-26, 2025
● C2C is an annual two-week summer camp held every July. Counselors arrive on campus a few days before students to participate in various training / set up sessions.
○ Counselor Move In Date: July 6
○ All Day Training: July 7 - July 11.
○ Camp In Session (Full Days): July 12 to July 25
○ Counselor Move Out Date: July 26.

 

 

Physical Demands
[X] Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally
lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as
one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job
duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria
are met.
[ ] Light work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or
carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in
this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the
time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or
wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities.
[ ] Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or
carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
[ ] Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or
carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
