Job Summary

The Director of Residential Experience and Student Engagement provides vision and mission-driven leadership for the Office of Residence Life while overseeing essential operational aspects of residential life, including program development, staff supervision, and crisis management, while fostering an environment that supports student engagement. The Director is responsible for ensuring students have a quality student experience in and out of residence life through programs, community building, education, judicial affairs, and housing facilities management. Working closely with residence life staff and student workers, the Director fosters an exciting student experience founded on the Lasallian Catholic heritage, dedicated to cultivating an inclusive and welcoming community while bringing to life the vision for student activities, clubs / organizations, and leadership development. The Director is a member of the Student Affairs team that articulate university policies and expectations as well as serve as an emergency contact for crisis intervention. This position is a 12-month live-in appointment (optional) with some evening and weekend responsibilities.

 

Salary Range: $55,000

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Mentor the professional residence life staff and indirectly resident assistants to ensure a quality and exciting residential community through residential programs and evaluations.
  • Manages the programming model and assessment ensuring a quality student experience for residential and commuter students.
  • Create and implement weekend programming events for students (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday after 8:00 p.m.).
  • Responsible for residence hall facility management including but not limited to maintenance requests, laundry operations and contract, opening and closing halls, and break housing.
  • Responsible for housing selection and assignments, housing related charges, key management and compiling statistics and occupancy reports.
  • Shape a student experience by developing leaders inspired by the Lasallian Catholic tradition of leading lives of service and ethical leadership.
  • Serve as a judicial affairs officer, adjudicating conduct cases and assigning sanctions as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and regulations relating to life in the residential community.
  • Coordinate crisis response and intervention procedures including participating in an administrator on-call rotation.
  • Responsible for the coordination of all student staff and professional staff training and development programs which includes recruitment, selection, training, supervision, team building and evaluation (in conjunction with the dean of students).
  • Manages overall budgets.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of weekend and other special events in collaboration with Student Affairs, Residence Life, Student Success, and Academics.
  • Manage the student activities website, social media presence, online registration, digital signage and other communications in conjunction with the Marketing and Communication office.
  • Provide comprehensive advising and guidance to club / organization advisors including risk management, leadership, and business office policies.
  • Coordinate implementation of involvement fairs.
  • Oversee student activities and organizations handbook and travel policy in conjunction with the student handbook and all university policies.   
  • Serve on university wide committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required and Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in residence life, student affairs, education, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with college-age students and knowledge of their developmental needs.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience is required.
  • A commitment to our Lasallian Catholic mission.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and pass a criminal background check.

  • Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Must be able to relate well with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and other professionals.
  • Establish, articulate and enforce university expectations and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse study body.

Physical Demands

[ X] Sedentary work. Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.

[ ] Light work. Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities.

[ ] Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

[ ] Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
