Regional Admission Counselor – Undergraduate Campus Position Overview: 

Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is seeking candidates for our Regional Admissions Counselor that are eager to contribute to its Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. The Regional Admission Counselor works from a remote location and is the primary admission representative for an assigned territory based in the Twin Cities. This counselor represents the residential college of Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN in the assigned Twin Cities territory.  Reporting to the Director of Admission, this individual’s role is to nurture, develop and enhance relationships with prospective students and their families as well as provide recruitment and financial aid knowledge throughout the admission process. This position maintains a strong connection to the Winona campus. The Regional Admission Counselor participates in both remote and on-campus recruitment events, is responsible for monthly and Saturday on campus office responsibilities, and is expected to remain informed and knowledgeable of activities related to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Winona Campus.

 

Salary range: $40k - $44k

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • At the direction of the Director of Admission, designs and executes an ongoing outreach and recruitment plan for assigned territories, with an emphasis on assigned Twin Cities-metro county territory.
  • Implement recruitment strategies in an assigned territory that includes high school visits, college fairs, local interviews, participation in local recruitment and alumni events and receptions, and all follow-up activities involved with recruiting prospective students to Saint Mary’s.
  • Execute ongoing communication with students and families via phone, letters, e-mail, social media and face-to-face meetings in assigned territory.
  • Provide guidance to students and families regarding admission requirements, financial aid, scholarships, residence life and other recruitment related issues; interact with high school counselors to assist in their knowledge and understanding of Saint Mary’s; participate in professional development activities that both enhance job performance and positively showcase the university.
  • Review admission applications, evaluate files and make recommendations regarding admissibility to the university; determine initial scholarship level for students offered admission to Saint Mary’s.
  • Prepare and deliver a variety of admission presentations to a wide range of constituents. 
  • Work with alumni and community organizations to enhance recruitment efforts. 
  • Complete necessary reports regarding recruitment, travel, schedule and other related work items; compile an annual territory report that summarizes and evaluates recruitment activities undertaken in the past recruitment cycle.
  • Follow university procedures regarding travel and other activities associated with recruitment 
  • Complete other projects as assigned that contribute to the success of the admission effort and enhance knowledge and professional development.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 3+ years of higher education or related experience preferred. 
  • Experience with events coordination and facilitation in assigned territory. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience developing strong professional relationships and communicating effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience being diplomatic and collaborative in a team environment. 
  • Strong computer skills: Solid understanding of the use of the Internet, Microsoft Office, Relational databases and CRM software experience strongly encouraged (Target X). 
  • Must be able to travel to the Winona campus on a monthly basis for major events & meetings.
  • Must be able to regionally travel (day travel) 80% during seasonal admissions period.
  • Familiarity with, and an appreciation of, the value of a private liberal arts, faith-based education required.

Physical Demands

  • Light Work. Light work invovles lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be ver little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities.
