Overview and Responsibilities

The Network Administrator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day network operations of our Winona Campus and includes LAN and WAN infrastructure, physical and virtual server and both Windows and Linux operating systems. This includes support, maintenance, security, and continued development for servers, storage, backup and SANs. This position works closely with the Network Operations Team to provide technical guidance on infrastructure improvements and our application programs to ensure systems run efficiently and effectively.

 

  • Assist with security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform server and network improvements, upgrades, and repairs
  • Maintain and monitor wireless infrastructure
  • Assist with server and security audits
  • Stay current with networking technology through exploration and research
  • Monitor system and network resources to ensure acceptable response time performance
  • Provide daily management and routine reporting for all servers and the checking of event logs to determine any irregularities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Management of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Familiarity with VMWare
  • Working knowledge of networked applications, SNMP, Syslog and Windows event log management
  • Knowledge of server and storage hardware
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills, attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people, work individually and within a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing time demands
  • Ability to respond 24/7 for critical system needs
  • Ability to occasionally travel between campus locations
  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, sit, squat, bend, stand, balance, climb, kneel, crouch and type for extended periods of time
  • Medium physical work requiring the exertion of up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently
