Overview and Responsibilities

The New Student Experience (NSE) Intern at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota will serve as a professional staff member within the Student Success Center. The NSE intern will work with the Director of Advising to supervise orientation leader staff and oversee registration programs for incoming students. As a part of the planning committee, the NSE intern will assist in the preparation of Welcome Weekend and Late Night activities for new student events. The right person for this position will have leadership experience, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for mission driven institutions. This position is an on campus position reporting to the Director of Advising. 

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create and present training materials for Orientation Leaders 
  • Maintain incoming student data; track and contact un-registered families 
  • Supervise three Executive Orientation Leaders 
  • Serve as on call, overnight professional staff member during June NSOR dates
  • Support Parent and Family orientation events 
  • Organize logistics for Winona Wednesdays, and other First Five Weeks programming
  • Prepare late night programming Welcome Weekend 
  • Manage content for the New Student 2024 social media groups
  • Prepare executive summary assessments for New Student Orientation programs
  • Provide retention data to campus partners based on Pre-NSOR student survey
  • Assist with Countdown to College study halls and field trip chaperoning 
  • Work on special projects as needed

 

Necessary Skills:

  • Basic understanding of Google Suite
  • Excellent oral and virtual communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Self motivated, innovative and creative thinker

Position Term: May 13 - August 2 

(Dates are negotiable) 

 

Time Commitment: 25 hours per week

Monday through Friday. Some weekends may be required. 

Campus is closed for Memorial Day and Independence Day.

 

Room and Board Details: Furnished private room or apartment.

  • Full, Private bathroom, towels provided if necessary 
  • Bedding provided if necessary
  • Full kitchen with stove, microwave, and refrigerator. Cooking / eating utensils provided if necessary
  • On Site, Free Laundry
  • Free Parking Pass
  • All meals provided during Orientation and Countdown to College
  • On Site Recreation Facilities, including indoor swimming pool, ice rink, indoor and outdoor track, 15+ miles of outdoor hiking trails, racquetball courts, cardio room, dance studio, and weight lifting equipment

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree Required - preferred current graduate student in education, higher education, student personnel, counseling, or other relevant programs 
  • preferred experience with college age students, specifically with orientation, academic skill building, transition, etc. 
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekend
