Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN has an opening for a Residence Hall Director. This is a full-time, live-in position responsible for the management of multiple residence halls housing approximately 150 to 250 students. This 12-month professional staff member fosters an authentic, student-centered community focused on the holistic well-being of the residential student to provide an inviting and engaging student experience. Specific duties include assessing students’ needs, advising and supervising undergraduate student staff, conduct investigations, mentoring, hall/facilities management, and other administrative duties.  

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a residence area consisting of 2-3 residence halls and approximately 150 to 250 student residents.
  • Supervise and mentor a staff of 5-9 resident assistants.
  • Address student issues arising from student conduct, counseling, and crisis-related concerns for the hall or area, investigating student conduct incidents and writing required reports.
  • Oversee community development within the residence halls that addresses the academic, spiritual, social, and physical needs of the residents. 
  • Collaborate with the office of Student Affairs to promote departmental programs and services that respond to ongoing student needs.
  • Advise a Residence Life student committee in matters of community service, training, social activities and other matters.
  • Coordinate routine duty night coverage for the hall or area.
  • Oversee general facility management and maintenance of area, including maintenance requests, maintaining cleanliness and good order within the halls.
  • Share in the student communal experience by taking meals in the student dining hall during the academic year.
  • Participate in all-campus duty coverage rotation.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of resident assistants and professional staff.
  • Perform other administrative duties and assignments as designated by the dean of students or the vice president for student affairs, to include departmental, divisional, and university meetings and training programs, required residence life meetings, judicial affairs, early alerts, professional development, programming, and housing.
  • Position requires living and dining on campus.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively alone and within a team environment.

 

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Prior residence life or student affairs experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and pass a criminal background check.
  • May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience.
