Overview and Responsibilities

Custodians are responsible for general housekeeping and sanitizing in various areas on campus including classrooms, offices, residence halls, athletic facilities, and grounds. General responsibilities include:

  • Restroom and shower room cleaning
  • Carpet maintenance
  • Trash removal
  • Dusting
  • Snow removal
  • Operation of floor machine for refinishing or buffing of floors as needed
  • Wall washing
  • Bleacher setup
  • Changing of light bulbs
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Essential skills and functions:

  • Develops and maintains good working relationships and communications at all levels of the organization.
  • Be able to work nights and weekends if position requires it.
  • Be able to work outside in the elements year-round.
  • Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively alone and within a team environment.
  • Support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary’s University as a Lasallian Catholic university.

Education and experience:

  • Custodial experience in a school or multi-building office/commercial space preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
