Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking to hire a part time Library Services Evening Associate on our Winona Campus.  The Library Services Evening Associate is responsible for delivering excellent library service to Saint Mary’s students, faculty, and staff during evening and weekend library hours. Primary duties involve student and faculty assistance with library services, circulation, stacks management, building security, equipment checkout, and student worker supervision. 

 

Hours During the Academic Year (August - May)

 

  • Wednesdays: 5 p.m. - Midnight
  • Thursdays: 5 p.m. - Midnight
  • Saturdays: 11:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

 

Days of the week worked may be adjusted or traded with the other Library Services Evening Associate. This position does not work June - late August.

 

Responsibilities

Student and Faculty Assistance

  • Assists students and faculty with finding specific library items, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides basic reference assistance, making referrals as needed to librarians or library chat service.
  • Assists library users with technology.
  • Assists patrons with library study room reservations.
  • Answers and routes calls to library staff.
  • Picks up mail from the Toner Center and distributes accordingly.

Circulation

  • Checks library materials in and out.
  • Maintains patron and material records.
  • Runs patron notices.
  • Answers billing questions.
  • Conducts thorough searches for material that has been claimed returned or missing from shelves.

Stacks Management

  • Shelves materials.
  • Runs periodic checks for shelving accuracy and shifting projects.
  • Accepts, monitors, and maintains the Reserves collection.
  • Collects, posts, and creates statistical computer records and other reports in areas of responsibility.

Building Security

  • Updates library hours, posting current hours on the front door.
  • Closes and secures the library, preparing it for the next day’s services.
  • Ensures the security and proper function of the library, contacting Campus Security as needed during evening and weekend hours.

Student Worker Supervision

  • Helps to schedule, train, monitor, and review time sheets for student workers.
  • Provides work assignments for student workers.
  • Ensures that there is appropriate student worker desk coverage.
  • Assesses the quality of the student workers.

General Library Duties

  • Attends library staff meetings.
  • Proposes new or changed policies and procedures to accomplish job responsibilities, related operations, and the University mission.
  • Actively supports colleagues and achieves all service goals.
  • Respects and advances the mission of Saint Mary's University as a LaSallian and Catholic institution.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Experience working in an academic library preferred.
  • 2 years of post-secondary education.
  • May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience.
